Many Newtown buildings have divided paint schemes. Although in the majority of cases this detracts from appreciation of the whole structure, this example of the 1885 W. Thomson building is more successful than most, and is also valuable in illustrating a direct comparison of the effect of using colour contrasts to highlight detail.
