Australian Copyright Law
Under Australian copyright law, literary, dramatic, & musical works published, performed, communicated, or recorded and offered for sale in an author's lifetime are protected for the life of the author plus fifty years from the end of the year of the author's death. After this time they enter into the public domain. You do not need to put a "copyright notice" on your work for it to be protected in Australia. You may choose to put a copyright notice on your work to remind people that it is protected by copyright. You can put the notice on your work yourself; there is no formal procedure. The notice is: © (or "Copyright") + copyright owner's name + year of first publication - for example: © Gus O'Donnell 1968. For further information see the Australian copyright site: http://www.copyright.org.auBackground to the Attorney-General’s Digital Agenda copyright reforms review http://www.phillipsfox.com/whats_on/Australia/DigitalAgenda/DigitalAgenda.asp
Copyright USA
As a rule of thumb, nearly everything published in the USA since 1923 is subject to copyright restrictions, while nearly everything published before 1923 is in the public domain. Due to a recent 20-year copyright extension enacted in the US, the 1923 limit will stay in effect until the end of 2018. Copyright information for all other countries (warning: check for currency in individual cases) is also available at:
